Bell KC7 CMR2016 Youth Karting Helmet Review

The Bell KC7 CMR2016 Youth Karting Helmet represents the pinnacle of safety for children starting their racing careers and should be on every parent's list of helmets to consider before their child hits the track.

The KC7 is a standout helmet amongst children's karting helmets due to its ultra-lightweight construction and youth specific features that are based on the F1 proven RS7 design. It uses a unique outer shell that allows the helmet to remain extremely light and manageable for even the smallest racers.

The Bell KC7 has been designed to work for all classes of kart racing with a sleek aerodynamic profile and carries the Snell CMR2016 safety rating which was purposely created with young karters in mind.

What is the safety rating of the Bell KC7 helmet?

The Bell KC7 Helmet carries the Snell/FIA CMR2016 safety rating. This is the most recent edition of the CMR rating and has no expiration at this time.

Homologated to the Snell/FIA CMR standard and certified for global competition, the KC7-CMR is designed to minimize helmet weight for karting drivers under the age of 18 and is perfect for the next generation of champions as they start their racing careers in karting. Under CIK regulations, helmets certified to the Snell-FIA CMH standard (CMR) can be used in karting and are designed for drivers under 18 years of age.

The CMR2016 rating is meant exclusively for youth kart racing and should not be used in auto racing events nor in events that require an SFI or Snell SA2020 rating.

What are the features of the KC7-CMR?

    Youth Specific Design

Most karting helmets marketed to children start with an adult helmet design and add additional padding to the interior to fit a child's smaller head circumference. While these helmets technically fit, they are significantly heavier and larger than the KC7 helmet.

The KC7 on the other hand uses a unique carbon composite shell meant specifically for younger drivers. This yields an extremely light helmet weighing between 1000 grams and 1200 grams. This significantly reduces neck fatigue that younger drivers experience while cornering on the track and makes for a safer helmet during harsh deceleration events.

    Abundant Airflow

The KC7-CMR is designed with a HighFlow Ventilation System which features 14 strategically placed intake and extraction channels, including a Direct Flow Chin Bar Ventilation to maximize cooling and comfort even on the hottest track days.

    Aerodynamics

The KC7 has been designed to work for all classes of kart racing with a sleek aerodynamic profile.

    Optional Aero

An optional aerodynamic kit is also available to enhance helmet performance and provide greater stability at higher speeds. The aerodynamic kit includes a chin bar gurney which adds down force to the front of the helmet to prevent lift and a rear spoiler that improves overall helmet stability. Both items come in an unpainted clear finish and attach with included double sided adhesive that holds aggressively to the shell yet can be removed easily without damaging the helmet's finish.

    Helmet Interior

The KC7 features an extremely comfortable and breathable multi-density interior with superior moisture wicking. The cheekpads are removable which allows for easy cleaning or replacement.

How big is the KC7 compared to other Helmets?

    Bell KC7-CMR vs RS7-K Size

The KC7 and RS7-K are both karting helmets with similar looks and features, however the KC7 was designed purposely as a youth specific helmet. You can easily see the difference between the outer shell sizes of both helmets. The smaller shell of the KC7 makes it a better choice for children that have not yet developed the neck strength to support heavier adult style helmets. We carry a wide range of Bell Karting Helmets!

How much does the Bell KC7 Helmet weigh?

The Bell KC7 weighs between 1000 grams (2.20lbs) and 1200 grams (2.65lbs) depending on the size. The smallest sizes of the KC7 (52CM-53CM) are around 1000 grams while the largest sizes (58CM-59CM) are around 1200 grams.

(Most competing "standard" shell helmets will be in the 3.5 - 3.75lb range.)

    Is Bell KC7-CMR padding removable/washable?

What is the sizing chart for the Bell KC7-CMR?

Sizing Chart for the Bell KC7 Helmet

Take several measurements. The largest measurement is the one you want to use.

Proper helmet fit is vital to the performance of a helmet. For the helmet to perform properly during an impact, it must stay securely on the head. Due to varying shapes, heads that are apparently the same size when measured may not necessarily fit the same size helmet. A small metal tape measure or a cloth tape may be used to make your initial measurement. You can also use a string, which can then be laid against a tape measure. Measure the circumference of the head at a point approximately one inch above the eyebrows in front, and at a point in the back of the head that results in the largest possible measurement.
